Child Psychoanalysis in Clinical Practice – Premium Global
About the course
Child Psychoanalysis in Clinical Practice – Premium Global is a free-standing global course for students and early-career professionals who want to study the psychoanalytic listening of children with conceptual rigor and clinical prudence. The course presents the classical foundations of child psychoanalysis without reducing the child to a diagnosis, a behavior to be corrected, or a premature pedagogical reading.
Across the course, students work through Freud and Melanie Klein in relation to child treatment: the unconscious, infantile sexuality, psychosexual development, the Oedipus complex, ego and superego, unconscious phantasy, internal world, object relations, the paranoid-schizoid position, the depressive position, guilt, and reparation.
The course also studies the clinical technique of working with children, with special attention to play, drawing, stories, dreams, monsters, body images, and symbolic productions. Its aim is to form a listening capable of recognizing the specific language of childhood while sustaining careful clinical hypotheses instead of mechanical interpretations of play or drawings.
The intermediate modules address essential questions of clinical management: transference in child analysis, resistance in children and parents, countertransference, supervision, personal analysis, initial interviews, feedback sessions, confidentiality, therapeutic alliance, dialogue with schools, and the limits of the analyst’s role.
The final stage integrates theory and practice through clinical cases involving aggression, rivalry, inhibition, fear, somatization, latency, shame, and refusal. The course closes with a review of clinical reasoning, articulating complaint, history, phantasy, transference, family, school, risk, ethics, and management plan.
